Bongo Baz - Wildlife Educator
"Bongo Baz" here! Here is a little bit about me:
First off no I'm not Australian... the accent is British. I was born and raised in England and moved to Canada when I was 15. I have also lived in India for a short time when I was a kid and this is where my interest in reptiles really started started. My first reptile presentation would have to have been with a snake charmer in India when I was 10 years old. I remember sitting next to him and handling vine snakes, rat snakes and a small Indian rock python... the building crowd was amazed to see a young boy handling these animals as if they were kittens. I have been working at Little Rays reptile zoo part time for few years now.
I work full time as a graphic designer (also the graphic designer for the zoo) but my real passion is to work with animals... especially reptiles. I have worked a little with big cats in the past and plan on getting my falconry licence in the near future.
Learning, teaching and working with large reptiles is what I love the most and Im glad I can do all that through working at the zoo. If you know me then you know I live for experience and adventure so I try to take my passion to the next level by travelling the world and working with some of my favourite animals in conservation projects. So far I have travelled to Komodo Island to help a research team capture, tag and take data from Komodo Dragons. I have also travelled to India as a representative of Little Rays Reptile Zoo to work with crocodiles at the Madras Crocodile Bank and Centre for Herpetology. This is my most memorable trip because it involved catching gharials, muggers, doing feeding demonstrations with extremely large crocodiles and doing educational presentations for the public.
Lots of adventures to come and I'll keep you posted!
