“Phat” Matthew Korhonen

My name is Matt Korhonez and I am a partner and the curator at Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo. I have been with Little Ray’s since the spring of 2000, and am proud to call the zoo home. Helping our company grow from a small outreach program run from a basement, to the largest Canadian reptile rescue and the nations leader in eco-education, has truely been one of my life’s great joys.

I graduated from the Fish and Wildlife Management Program at Fleming College, and have always had a passion for understanding the relationships that shape our natural world. As with many of you who may read this, my passion for reptiles stemmed from my love of the outdoors and catching/ studying any critter I could find at my family cottage. As curator, I enjoy the responsibility of overseeing the care and maintenance of over 600 different reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds, and bugs. This task may seem almost impossible at first, but having a top notch animal care team behind me makes life easier for both myself and the animals. When I am not cleaning up croc and cobra poop, I enjoy entertaining our guests, traveling literally across the country at fairs and exhibitions, and heading up our wildlife tours of Ontario and the East Coast.

Away from work I enjoy spending time with my wife Mackenzie and Pacey and Zoey ( our Basset Hound and Great Dane- it’s weird I know). Any spare time I get I spend mountain biking, playing guitar, reading, and surrounding myself with great people.

I encourage everybody to take in what our zoo has to offer, and just remember that if you’re laughing, you’re listening.
