As a kid I was afraid of reptiles, especially snakes. My mom used to hold them for me when we found them, to show me that they’re not scary. It worked, and then some! Funny enough, I’ve recently discovered that my mom was afraid of snakes, too! I love seeing parents do this during my shows for Little Ray’s. Seeing a worried child get brave and hold a snake, or hold a tarantula, is always rewarding.
My work in this field started with working in pet stores around Ottawa, and in 2006 I went to Chiapas, Mexico and spent a year there volunteering in the ZooMAT, the regional state zoo. Since getting to work with Mexican Beaded Lizards there (and their cute babies!), they have become my favourite animal.
I returned to Canada in the spring of 2007 and have been working at Little Ray’s ever since. I love it! I go to schools, birthday parties, and events to do presentations.
Maybe I’ll see you at your party!
